In early 2024, we were excited to be appointed to design, supply and install new signage at one of the most iconic venues in the world – Wembley Stadium!
The project was part of a broader initiative to improve stadium security and enhance the visitor experience following the 2020 Euros final between England and Italy.
During the game thousands of fans attempted, many successfully, to gain access to the stadium without tickets, creating significant safety concerns. In response, it was decided that increased security measures would be implemented to stop anything like that from happening again.
New barriers were installed to increase security and our role was to design, fabricate, and install signage at key locations, including the media, staff, and main entrances of Club Wembley, the stadium’s exclusive hospitality area.
We understood the importance of getting the design right from the very beginning of the project. Directing large crowds efficiently is great for the visitor experience but it is also key for safety as well – especially with the size of the crowds Wembley attracts.
The signage needed to be practical, clear and have a premium appearance to suit the stadium environment. After careful planning and design collaboration, the FA approved a modern solution which was to create rimless built-up illuminated letters with cool white LEDs. This ensured the signage was visible all year round and makes navigating the stadium and finding the various entrances very visitor friendly.
The individual letters were manufactured using aluminium returns and backings and acrylic faces. This resulted in incredibly durable units that offer very low maintenance requirements. This combined with the long lifespan of the LEDs means the stadium will be shining bright for years to come.
With the designs approved and fabrication complete, installation was the next challenge and had to be timed in conjunction with the ongoing building work and fabrication of the new security gates. Our team assembled on site and installed all three sets of letters within a day to meet the tight deadline and keep the project moving forward.
The stadium now boasts upgraded security as well as exceptional signage which is regularly spotted on social media thanks to the many visitors of Club Wembley.
